Bi-directional diagnostics
Two-way communication between a display and its controller. Bi-directional diagnostics assist in premaintenance, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Bit(b)
1. From binary digit, a 1 or 0 representing one position in a binary number; it is the smallest unit of data in a computer. More meaningful information is obtained by combining consecutive bits into larger units. For example, a byte is composed of eight consecutive bits. Computers are sometimes classified by the number of bits they can process at one time, or by the number of bits they use to represent addresses. 2. In graphics and video processing, the number (of bits) used to represent each dot or pixel, or the amount of data available for reproducing colors on a display. A 1-bit image is monochrome; an 8-bit image supports 256 colors or grayscales. With LED displays, for example, offering 10-bit processing can generate 1,024 shades of red, green, and blue (1.07 billion color combinations). LED displays offering 12-bit video processing can generate 4,096 shades of red, green, and blue (68.7 billion color combinations).
